Monday Deal Review: January 13, 2014

  Welcome to your Monday Biotech Deal Review for Janary 13, 2014! This week saw the closing of a number of financing transactions, as well as Sirona’s announcement of a private placement of up to $5.34 million in proceeds.  Aeterna Zentaris also announced pricing of their public offering, indicating that shares will be sold at US$1.20 per share, with proceeds up to US$12.2 million.

Monday Deal Review: May 27, 2013

Welcome to your Monday Biotech Deal Review for May 27, 2013! After what was hopefully a peaceful and relaxing Victoria Day, we can get back to business with two week’s worth of news.  To start, Bioniche is looking to sell its animal health business, having engaged an advisory firm to advise on a transaction. In adidtion, TheraVitae is entering into a transaction with Technical Ventures RX Corp, ultimately creating the publicly-traded biotech Hemostemix. TheraVitae currently works in the area of blood-derived autologous adult stem cell therapies.

Also noteworthy is Aeterna Zentaris’s at market issuance of up to US$4.6 million worth of shares on the NADAQ. Finally, iCo Therepeutics closed its own marketed offering, with proceeds of $3,379,519.90.

Monday Biotech Deal Review: April 4, 2011

Welcome to your Monday Biotech Deal Review for April 4, 2011.  Valeant was a major headline last week with its hostile $5.7 billion leveraged-buyout offer for Cephalon, Inc., which some are suggesting may herald a new era of M&A activity in the biotech sector (you’ll recall that Valeant itself is the product of the recent merger with biotech heavyweight Biovail Corporation).   In addition, CCAA-protected Angiotech has filed a second amended and restated plan of compromise or arrangement and has made amendments to its support agreements, which plan is scheduled to be voted by creditors this week.  Last week continued the previous weeks’ pick-up in financing, with some newly announced and closed private placements.  And to top it off there were also a number of interesting commercial and licensing transactions.  Read on to learn more.   Read more of this post

If you’re just here for the deals, don’t fret, we have those too: a busy bunch of closings ended 2009, with almost $12 million flowing into the coffers of Canadian biotech companies from December investors over the past two weeks.  But don’t expect a quiet January in the Biotech Deal Review — Med BioGene has filed for its U.S. IPO, Agrium continues its push for CF Industries and Prism has engaged a Special Committee.  Details of those and all the other goodies you missed while you were voting in IVB’s year-end round up after the jump…
