Monday Deal Review: January 13, 2014

  Welcome to your Monday Biotech Deal Review for Janary 13, 2014! This week saw the closing of a number of financing transactions, as well as Sirona’s announcement of a private placement of up to $5.34 million in proceeds.  Aeterna Zentaris also announced pricing of their public offering, indicating that shares will be sold at US$1.20 per share, with proceeds up to US$12.2 million.

Monday Deal Review: November 25, 2013

  Welcome to your Monday Biotech Deal Review for November 25, 2013! This week saw Patheon enter into an agreement which will take the company private, once the necessary shareholder and court approval is obtained. Futher, Cardiome has closed its acquisition of Swiss-based Correvio in a cash and share deal. On the financing side of things, Aeterna Zentaris announced that it is seeking to raise US$13.7 million with its previosly announced public offering.

Monday Deal Review: June 24, 2013

Welcome to your Monday Biotech Deal Review for June 24, 2013!

The past weeks’ big news is Antibe’s IPO, which resulted in approximately $2.1 million in proceeds. Antibe also concurrently made a private placement of shares with two private investors.

Valeant also made big news with the announcement of a public offering for proceeds of $1.75 billion, and a senior notes offering of about $3.2 billion.

Monday Biotech Deal Review: May 17, 2010

Meanwhile, for Medicago it’s graduation day, with a $10m present standby deal from Mom and Dad Yorkville Advisors on offer as it takes its symbol to the TSX big board from the venture exchange.

I guess the excitement of BIO was driving deals this week. To the delight of the economic development folks, government was in on the action — Ontario announced a BIP investment and announced a whole new strategy, and OICR funded three equity deals. The private sector was also out in force, with four new licensing deals (including some interesting structures) and more securities than the week might otherwise … warrant. This week deals are back in full force, despite the fact that Tengion’s IPO was less popular than expected and Neovacs scaled back its planned IPO.  Highlights include Patheon raising $280 million from its note placement, Verio Therapeutics getting phagocytosed by Fate (but remaining in Ottawa) and Lorus Therapeutics’ F-1 filing for a $17.5 million unit offering.
