Monday Deal Review: January 27, 2014

  Welcome to your Monday Biotech Deal Review for Janary 27, 2014! This week saw Valeant complete thier acquisition of Solta Medical, Inc. for USD$250 million. Solta Medical provides treatment technologies for aesthetic care options at the consumer and physician level.  Valeant has also announced a share repurchase program to make purchases of up to $1.5 billion of its convertible notes, senior notes, common shares and/or other debt or shares that may be issued. In other news, Atrium Innovations has obtained shareholder and debentureholder approval for a plan or arrangement allowing for the acquisition of the company by corporations backed by the Permira funds and the acquisition by the company of all of its outstanding convertible debentures.

Monday Deal Review: February 18, 2013

Welcome to your Monday Biotech Deal Review for February 18, 2013! This week saw Gilead finally close its acquisition of YM Biosciences, with YM’s shares now de-listed from trading on the NYSE Amex and the TSX. Shareholders were given $2.65 for each of their common shares during the plan of arrangement.  On the investment front, Innovotech, RepliCel, Lignol, Biosenta and Biosign each had announcements relating to the close or amendment of existing private placements.  Click on to see the full details.

Monday Deal Review: December 10, 2012

Welcome to your Monday Biotech Deal Review for December 10, 2012.  This week saw significant activity in the commercial and licensing agreements arena, as well as a couple M&Eh transactions. Of particular note is Valeant’s commercial resolution of their ongoing issues with Gladerma SA stemming from Valeant’s recent purchase of Medicis.  On the M&A side of things, Biosign has purchased their exclusive distributor Bioanalytics Inc. hot on the heels of closing their recent private placement, which closed the previous week. Monday Biotech Deal Review: July 5, 2010

Not a bad week for deals, considering the holiday weekend in both Canada and the U.S.. Response Biomedical placed a PIPE with OrbiMed funds, CTI did a follow-on round in Zymeworks and LAB Research took an equity line. Plus a companion diagnostic deal from Aeterna, just as I’m planning for Diagnostics Asia in August. The week’s rounded out with $450k from the NRC and a spin-out from Ondine. Read more of this post

Monday Biotech Deal Review: May 10, 2010

Some people were on the move this week — not only did Sanofi Canada announce 70 R&D job cuts, but BioMS took on a new banker and Labopharm, CardioComm and GeneNews all get new faces. Despite the fact that it seemed half of the country’s companies and deal-makers were at BIO in Chicago this week, there was still a fair amount of positive deal activity including numerous private placements, commercial agreements and a bit of M&Eh.

This week deals are back in full force, despite the fact that Tengion’s IPO was less popular than expected and Neovacs scaled back its planned IPO.  Highlights include Patheon raising $280 million from its note placement, Verio Therapeutics getting phagocytosed by Fate (but remaining in Ottawa) and Lorus Therapeutics’ F-1 filing for a $17.5 million unit offering.
